Anxiety and Relationships

A defining feature of anxiety is a deficit in feeling safe, secure, and empowered. Also common to anxiety is a sense of being alone in your experience, without supportive and understanding others to be with you in your fear. When the absence of safety and security is coupled with feeling alone, your anxiety can become more acute. This is because relationships provide the very resources we need to experience the safety and a sense of belonging that brings our nervous system back into a state of regulation. Thus, when compassionate connection is missing or unavailable, so too are the vital resources your mind-body needs to settle and feel at peace."
