I completed my undergraduate work at Humboldt State University where I received a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. I later began my Masters work in Psychology at Pepperdine University before transferring into the Clinical Psychology program at the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University. There, I completed both my Masters as well as my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology.
My work as a psychologist began at Orange County AIDS Service Foundation where I provided individual and group psychotherapy to those diagnosed with HIV and AIDS as well as to loved one’s impacted by the disease. There, I cultivated the skills needed to treat mental health issues related to chronic illness, substance abuse, addiction, and loss and grief. Additionally, I acquired the skills necessary to effectively coordinate care among a team of health care professionals working together to treat one individual.
Later, while working at Providence Community Services, Anaheim, I gleaned experience working with children and families. Following my time at PCS, I worked for Children, Youth, and Family Services where I provided individual and group therapy to students at Alhambra High School. There, I honed my skills in working with adolescents and the many issues they are confronted with, such as: substance use, peer pressure, identity and self-esteem, disordered eating behavior, anxiety, depression and academic stress.
Following my work at Children, Youth, and Family Services, I spent two years, including my post-doctoral training, at The Saturday Center for Psychotherapy in Santa Monica. At the Saturday Center, I provided long-term, insight-oriented psychotherapy to adults, adolescents, couples, and families. My training focusedspecifically on achieving an advanced level of psychodynamic therapeutic technique.
Upon completing my post-doctoral training, I began an intensive 3 year training program with the Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute where I earned certification as a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner. As an SEP, I am trained in working with the neurophysiology of trauma and other stress related disorders. As such, I am able to integrate body-based treatment techniques into traditional talk therapy to facilitate the resolution of trauma at a deeper level.
In addition, I am also a certified Reiki practitioner and I am presently completing training to become an EMDR therapist.
